VOTD: Deuteronomy 18:15

NIV: Deuteronomy 18:15 - The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him.

Theme: This verse deals with the themes of prophecy, leadership, obedience, and divine guidance. It predicts the arrival of a prophet from within the Israelites, ordained by God, and instructs the Israelites to listen to this prophet, presumably for spiritual knowledge and guidance.

Emotions: There's a sense of anticipation, obedience, and faith that comes with waiting for a prophesied leader. The people are told not only that a new prophet will come, but also that they are obliged to listen to this leader, producing a feeling of impending responsibility.

Imagery: The imagery invoked is that of a prophet emerging from the 'fellow Israelites.' Implicit in this is the image of a strong community tied by common faith and destiny – an internal leader rising from their midst. Another important imagery is of God 'raising up' the prophet, giving the vision of divine intervention cascading down on the human community.

Illustration: With a focus on the anticipation of a divine event and obedience to the coming prophet, imagine a scene of numerous Israelites gathered in a public space in awe as they watch a figure emerging from among them, cloaked in divine light, representing the prophet ordained by God. Shadows of worshippers bending in obedience to the figure can be seen, and a sense of solemnity and unity pervades the scene.
