Verse of the day: 1 Corinthians 1:18

" For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God."

The Bible, in all its humbling honesty, can often present us with difficult, paradoxical truths. One such paradox is found in Corinthians 1:18, 'For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.'

As believers, accepting the paradox of the cross can be challenging. But as we delve deeper into our faith, we come to realize the profound strength hidden within this apparent contradiction. The cross, an execution tool associated with utter disgrace, transforms into a symbol of victory and salvation because of Christ’s sacrifice. How can this be?

But that's the crux of our faith. Jesus flipped the script on the power structures of this world. He stooped lower than any man, endured the most painful death, only to rise undefeated and victorious. This is the power of God made manifest.

Every time we look at the cross, we are reminded of this striking contrast. The brilliant part of it is that this so-called "foolishness" is not without purpose. To the perishing, the cross is an emblem of despised death, but to people enriched by God's love, it is the symbol of triumphant life.

As believers, we are being saved. Not a one-time event but a continual process. The cross is our anchor amid life's storms and an emblem of the transformative power of God.

Emotionally, this rings true as well. We all have crosses to bear in our lives, struggles that may seem like foolishness to others. But in bearing our own crosses, we connect with the suffering of Christ on a profound level, and in that wrestling, we often find our greatest strength.

This verse, then, calls us to embrace the apparent foolishness of our faith. It asks us to see our trials, struggles, and the world with spiritual eyesight. And in doing so, we are no longer mere executors but obedient carriers of God's mighty power. It’s the power that raises us from sin’s death to an abundant life. This is the mystery and the glory of the cross - foolishness to some, but to those being saved, it is the power of God.

So, take up your cross, whatever it may be, and let God turn your struggles into the arena of his victory. Our Savior did it, and He's given us the power to do the same. Rest on His promise today. When we see with spiritual eyesight, no suffering is meaningless, and no cross we bear is borne in vain. His power is made perfect in our weakness. That is the message of the cross. That is our faith. That is the power of God to us.
