Verse of the day: 1 John 5:14-15
"This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him."
There is something deeply comforting in this promise from 1 John: we are not strangers knocking at a locked door, hoping heaven might notice us. We are invited near. We are welcomed into the presence of God with confidence—not because we are strong, eloquent, or deserving, but because He is loving, attentive, and faithful. The verse does not merely tell us that prayer is permitted; it tells us that prayer is heard. That truth alone can steady an anxious heart.
The image of open, upward-facing hands beautifully captures the posture of this passage. Open hands are humble hands. They do not grasp, demand, or control. They receive. They express surrender and trust at the same time. In prayer, this is the posture we are called to take before God. We come honestly, bringing our needs, our hopes, our burdens, and our questions. Yet we also come yielded, trusting that His will is wiser than our wishes and His timing better than our urgency.
The descending light symbolizes the assurance that God hears. So often, believers pray and then wonder whether their words have gone anywhere at all. But this verse reminds us that heaven is not silent in indifference. God listens with perfect attention. This has practical meaning for everyday life. When facing uncertainty, we can pray with confidence for wisdom. When carrying pain, we can ask for strength and comfort. Even when the answer comes differently than we expected, we are invited to believe that God is still answering in ways deeper than we can see.
The distant path in the background reflects the believer’s journey: we approach God again and again, and each step toward Him is met by grace. Prayer is not a performance; it is relationship. It is the child coming to the Father, the weary soul finding rest, the hopeful heart learning surrender.
Today, let this verse quiet your fears. Bring your requests before the Lord with reverence and confidence. Open your hands before Him. Ask boldly, surrender deeply, and trust fully.
