Verse of the day: Matthew 18:15

"“If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over."

In the quiet chambers of our hearts, few instructions from our Lord feel as daunting as this one from Matthew 18: 'If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you.' Our human impulse often pulls us in two opposing directions: to retreat into wounded silence, allowing the chasm of misunderstanding to widen, or to broadcast our grievance to others, seeking validation rather than resolution. But Jesus offers a third way—a sacred, narrow path not of retribution, but of restoration.

The heart of this command is not about being right; it is about making things right. The ultimate prize is not winning an argument, but as the verse so beautifully states, 'winning them over.' This is a victory of love, a triumph of unity over division. It is an act of profound spiritual courage, a refusal to let a fellow traveler in faith remain lost in a fault without a hand reaching out to guide them home. It requires us to lay down our pride, our defensiveness, and our desire for vindication at the foot of the cross.

Imagine the hurt or division between you and another as a quiet, misty valley. We stand on one shore, they on another. Left untended, the silence deepens, the mist thickens, and the distance feels impassable. But Christ's command is a call to be a bridge-builder. When we 'go' to our brother or sister in humility and love, we are weaving the first threads of a luminous, golden bridge. This bridge is not built with the harsh materials of accusation, but with the divine light of grace, gentleness, and a genuine desire for healing. It is a holy endeavor, one that requires us to pray for wisdom and to be bathed in God's light before we take the first step.

This is not a license for harsh critique. It is a summons to private, prayerful, and gentle conversation. The goal is to close the circle of two, to handle the precious bond of fellowship with the care it deserves. Who in your life is on the other shore? Is there a relationship where a gentle word, offered in love, might begin to build a bridge of light across the valley? Let us not be architects of walls, but builders of bridges.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, grant me the courage to obey Your command. Quiet my prideful heart and fill me with a love that seeks to restore, not to condemn. Show me where I must be a bridge-builder, and give me the grace-filled words to speak, that I might win over my brother or sister for Your glory and for the sake of Your peace. Amen.
