Verse of the day: Isaiah 40:31

"but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

There are moments when exhaustion seeps into the soul—when our efforts, prayers, and endurance seem to falter beneath the weight of life’s demands. Isaiah 40:31 meets us precisely there, whispering a promise of renewal that does not depend on our strength but on our hope in the Lord. “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.” It is not a command to strive harder, but an invitation to rest deeper in trust.

The eagle’s flight captures this mystery beautifully. Eagles do not endlessly flap their wings; they rise by catching the unseen currents of warm air. Likewise, the believer’s renewal comes not from frantic self-effort but from being lifted by the Spirit’s sustaining presence. To “soar on wings like eagles” is to move in harmony with divine power—to live above the turbulence, carried by grace rather than burdened by fear.

The illuminated manuscript’s imagery of soaring and running speaks to life’s varied seasons. There are times of flight—moments of vision and inspiration when faith feels effortless. There are seasons of running—laboring in service and perseverance. And there are days of walking—steady, quiet obedience when progress feels slow. Yet in each, God promises sustaining strength: the ability to continue without growing weary or faint.

As we meditate on this verse, imagine yourself within that illuminated scene: lifted toward light, every motion suffused with divine energy. The promise is not that life will be easy, but that God’s renewing breath will fill our wings, our stride, our every step. Hope in the Lord—and rise again.
