Verse of the day: Psalm 138:8

"The Lord will accomplish what concerns me; Your faithfulness, Lord, is everlasting; Do not abandon the works of Your hands."

There are verses that feel like a hand on the shoulder in the middle of a long road, and this is one of them. “The Lord will accomplish what concerns me” is not the language of self-sufficiency. It is the confession of someone who has stopped trying to hold the whole world together by sheer effort. It is the prayer of a soul learning that God is not only aware of our lives, but actively at work within them.

This verse begins with trust: the Lord will finish what He has begun. That is a profound comfort, especially when our own plans feel incomplete, delayed, or fragile. We often see only fragments—unfinished prayers, unanswered questions, and responsibilities that seem larger than our strength. But God sees the whole pattern. What concerns us concerns Him, and His care is not temporary or distracted. It is faithful.

The verse then turns upward in praise: “Your faithfulness, Lord, is everlasting.” Here the heart remembers that God’s character is the foundation beneath every changing circumstance. Human promises can fail. Our emotions can shift. Our energy can run out. But God’s faithfulness does not age, weaken, or disappear. It remains steady through every season, like a river that never dries and a lamp that never goes out.

Finally, the prayer becomes tender and personal: “Do not abandon the works of Your hands.” This is not a demand, but a plea rooted in relationship. We are God’s workmanship—crafted, known, and held. The verse invites us to rest in the truth that the One who made us will not discard us.

In the imagined medieval illumination, the kneeling figure represents our own fragile lives before God. The golden hand above symbolizes divine care completing an unfinished work. The vine winding through the border reflects faithfulness that grows and endures. And the light surrounding the scene reminds us that God’s purposes are not hidden in darkness, but brought to fruition in grace.

Today, whatever concerns you, place it in the hands that made you. The God who begins in love will also finish in love.
