Verse of the day: James 1:21

"Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you."

The verse invites us into a spiritual spring cleaning. “Get rid of all moral filth,” James urges—an ancient but startlingly relevant challenge. Every day, we gather the dust of resentment, pride, and distraction. These things accumulate quietly, dulling our awareness of God’s presence. The first movement of faith, then, is not accumulation but release: letting go of what stains the heart so that something purer can take root.

The second movement is humility—“humbly accept the word planted in you.” This phrase suggests that God has already sown something holy within us. The divine Word is not a distant decree but a living seed waiting to grow. Our task is not to manufacture faith but to nurture it: to water it with prayer, to clear away weeds of self-centeredness, and to trust that growth will come in its season.

For the illuminated image, I imagine a figure kneeling on soil darkened by shadow. From the heart of that soil, a small golden seed begins to sprout, its leaves bathed in heavenly light. Around the figure, murky waters recede while a stream of clear light pours down. This visual metaphor reminds us that salvation is not imposed from outside but germinates within—God’s life taking root in a cleansed and open heart. As we turn from impurity toward grace, the garden of the soul begins to flourish anew, radiant with the light that saves.
