Verse Of The Day: 1 John 5:14-15

NIV: 1 John 5:14-15

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.

Theme: Faith is depicted in the level of confidence believers have when approaching God. This confidence is not based on personal ability or virtues; rather, it's founded on understanding and accepting God's will. Good communication with God illustrates the act of prayer and the believers' belief in the efficacy of prayer. Assurance/reassurance is evident in the believers' trust in God hearing their prayers and granting their requests in accordance with His will.

Emotions: Emotionally, the verse evokes feelings of tranquillity, assurance, hope, and faith. It reassures believers that God's favor is upon them. Faith is another strong emotion that comes into play - the belief that God is listening and will answer according to his will.

Imagery: Imagery is woven throughout the verse, especially the imagery of divine communication. Imagining a supreme God who listens to human requests gives the reader a sense of ease and establishes a powerful image of a loving and attentive God.

Illustration: Depict a serene setting where a believer, full of confidence and hope, is kneeling or standing in prayer, communicating with God. The posture symbolizes their absolute faith in God's presence and receptiveness. A vibrant light from above could indicate the assurance that God is listening, emphasizing the celestial communication between the divine and the mortal. This image should evoke peacefulness, faith, and the comfort found in relying on a higher power. It could possibly feature elements suggesting the answered prayers or desires according to His will.
