Verse Of The Day: Jeremiah 17:9-10

NIV: Jeremiah 17:9-10

The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? “I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.”

Theme: The theme in this verse pertains to God's omniscience and divine justice. It calls attention to the unreliability of human heart, revealing its deceitful nature. It vividly portrays that God is the ultimate judge who searches the heart and examines the mind to reward or recompense each person according to their conduct and actions.

Emotions: The emotions invoked by this verse can include humility, a sense of introspection, fear, reverence for God's omniscience, and hopeful anticipation of divine justice. There's an undertone of human frailty and God's complete understanding that both challenges and comforts the listener.

Imagery: The verse uses powerful imagery of the heart, conveying it as deceitful and beyond human comprehension. It presents a contrasting picture of God's understanding, suggesting his capability to search the heart and mind - an image that is both probing and in-depth.

Illustration: Draw a person standing on a platform scale with a large magnifying glass hovering over him, symbolizing the divine assessment of God. The scale represents the "reward according to their conduct", and the magnifying glass denotes God's deep examination of the person's heart and mind. The person can be drawn in a introspective or contemplative posture. The heart can be emphasized by using different tones. Ensure to express the emotions of humility, introspection, and anticipation in the illustration.
