Verse Of The Day: Proverbs 19:20-21

NIV: Proverbs 19:20-21

Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise. Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.

Theme: The theme of this verse is wisdom, obedience, divine providence, and God’s sovereignty. It communicates the importance and value of accepting advice and discipline to obtain wisdom and underscores that even though humans may have many plans, God's will is what eventually materializes.

Emotions: The emotions conveyed here may include humility, acceptance, wisdom, reassurance, and surrender. There's a sense of humility in understanding the limit of human wisdom and power, acceptance and respect toward discipline and advice, the comfort of wisdom obtained through learning, and the reassurance in knowing that God's will prevails. Ultimately, it calls for surrender to God's higher purpose.

Imagery: This verse prompts imagery of a humble student or apprentice learning patiently from a wise teacher, of plans being laid out and then altered by a higher power, and of people making many plans in heart, demonstrating human intent, desire, and free will.

Illustration: Draw a young person bent over books, receiving advice from an older, wiser mentor under the shade of a large tree. In the background, there could be an intricate planning board with many pieces, representing the plans in a person's heart. High above them all, an overpowering hand from the heavens reaches down, confidently rearranging the pieces, symbolizing the Lord's overriding purpose.
