Verse of the day: Philippians 1:29

"For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for him,"

Upon reflection of Philippians 1:29, we come to grasp the profound truth that Christian life isn't just about belief, but also about sacrifice, bearing the suffering for Christ, just as He did for us. A privilege, a grace, a divine honor that God bestows upon us.

Imagine yourself as a torchbearer in the darkest night. You can feel the flame's warmth, symbolizing your strong belief in Christ. At the same time, the same flame's heat gives you discomfort and even pain — your innate suffering for Him. Yet, you know that enduring this suffering is not merely an act of sacrifice. It is also a testament to your steady faith, your resolute love for Christ, and your acknowledgement of His love for you.

Being granted to believe in Christ, to have faith in Him is the initial grace bestowed upon us. This belief is our torch in the darkest hours of life, illuminating our path, providing us with hope, strength, and firming up our resolve.

The other grace, suffering for Christ, might seem paradoxical. Why should suffering be considered a privilege? Remember that Christ also suffered for you, and in your suffering, you gain a glimpse of His love, His sacrifice. It intertwines your heart with His. Your endurance serves as an epitome of unwavering faith, resilience, and perseverance, enduring the heat of the torch, yet still carrying it high.

Christian life is indeed a journey filled with trials and tribulations, but it is through these trials that we are refined, just as gold is refined by fire, making us stronger, purer, and bringing us closer to God. Christ’s love for us is so profound that He has granted us not only the grace to believe in Him but endure for Him, manifesting our love for Him. So, let us carry our torch high, bear the heat, and light the world with our unwavering faith in Christ.
