Verse of the day: Romans 6:23

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

One of the deepest reckonings we must come to in our spiritual journey is the extent of the consequence of sin. Romans 6:23 reminds us that 'the wages of sin is death.' This statement may seem harsh, but it possesses a powerful truth that underscores our need for salvation. Just as laborers earn wages, so also do our transgressions bear a cost - death. But this death is not just a physical demise but refers to a far more alarming spiritual death - a separation from our Creator.

However, even in the stern reminder of the price of sin, the verse also brings with it a breath of hope. The "but" signifies a turning point, a pivot from despair to hope. This is where God's beneficence shines brilliantly through. Unlike the wages earned, God's gift is not something we work for but freely receive. His gift - eternal life - is available through Jesus Christ.

Our illustration symbolizes this profound dichotomy. A balance scale represents our life. On one side, we have sin which earns us death. The skull, a universal symbol of mortality, reminds us of our physical limitations and inexorable fate if we continue accumulate the earnings of sin. The coin is a stark emblem of these dire wages.

On the other side, we find God's unmerited favor. The gift box is a felicitous reminder that eternal life is not something we have earned or can earn—it is a gift from God through the redemptive love and sacrifice of Christ Jesus. The infinity symbol represents this life that knows no end, a life of peace, joy, and fellowship with God.

These two sides are imbalanced, with the scale tipped significantly towards God's gift. And that's the extraordinary news - God's grace outweighs the sin that burdens us. The love He offers tips the scales in favor of life – eternal life. This verse highlights the path from separation to reunification, from despair to hope, and from death to life. As we ponder over this, let us remember that even though sin's consequences are severe, God's grace is immeasurable, tipping the scales towards redemption and eternal life. Hold on to His gift unwaveringly, for it leads us to a life that will never end.
