Verse of the day: Isaiah 26:3

"You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you."

There are days when peace feels fragile. One troubling message, one unexpected expense, or one fearful thought can disturb the heart. Yet Isaiah offers a promise that reaches deeper than changing circumstances: “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”

This peace is not presented as something we create through determination. God is the One who keeps us. The image is not of a person desperately gripping the edge of safety, but of a faithful Keeper holding that person securely. Our part is trust—a steady turning of the mind toward the One whose character does not change.

A medieval illuminated manuscript could portray this truth through a solitary figure kneeling upon a rock inside a strong stone tower. Outside, a dark sea surges beneath storm-filled skies. Trees bend in the wind, and waves strike the walls, but the person within remains surrounded by a circle of golden light. The storm is real, yet it does not occupy the center of the picture. God’s shelter does.

The rock represents steadfast faith: not confidence in our own strength, but a life resting on a foundation stronger than fear. An anchor shaped like a cross might descend into the turbulent water, showing how trust holds the soul when emotions rise and fall. Above, a dove bearing an olive branch could hover in a field of deep blue, reminding us that true peace comes from heaven. Gold around the worshiper’s head would suggest a mind illuminated by God’s presence.

To keep our minds steadfast does not mean refusing to acknowledge grief, danger, or uncertainty. It means repeatedly bringing them into the presence of God. Prayer, Scripture, worship, and remembrance guide wandering thoughts back to the truth: God is near, God is faithful, and God remains sovereign.

Today, imagine your worries as waves outside a fortified tower. Hear them, but do not enthrone them. Turn your attention toward the light within. Trust may begin as a whispered prayer: “Lord, hold my mind steady.” Perfect peace grows as we discover that the One we trust is already holding us.
