Verse of the day: Hebrews 10:35-36
"So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised."
There are seasons when confidence in God feels less like a blazing torch and more like a small flame cupped against the wind. We still believe, but disappointment, delay, and exhaustion press against our faith. Hebrews speaks directly into such moments: “Do not throw away your confidence.” The wording is striking. Confidence can be treated like a burden and discarded—or treasured as a gift and held close.
This confidence is not optimism that circumstances will quickly improve. It is courageous trust that God remains faithful even when his promise has not yet become visible. The verse does not deny the difficulty of waiting. Instead, it names what waiting requires: perseverance. We continue praying, loving, obeying, and hoping—not because the road is easy, but because the One who called us is trustworthy.
Imagine the verse as a medieval illumination. A pilgrim walks along a narrow, stony road while dark winds pull at a golden shield in his hand. That shield bears a cross. It represents confidence rooted not in personal strength, but in Christ’s finished work. The pilgrim may be tired, yet he does not release it. Faith is sometimes simply the grace to keep holding on.
Ahead stands a radiant city, touched with gold leaf, while a crown glimmers at its gate. The city represents God’s promised future; the crown signifies the reward of communion with him. Its light reaches backward onto the pilgrim’s path. This is the power of Christian hope: the promised future illuminates present obedience.
Along the manuscript border, a small acorn becomes an oak, and a vine slowly produces fruit. Neither image suggests instant results. Growth occurs through hidden, patient faithfulness. In the same way, doing God’s will often consists of ordinary acts repeated over time—forgiving again, praying again, serving again, and choosing truth again.
Perhaps today you feel caught between obedience and fulfillment. You have done what you know to do, but the promise still seems distant. Do not mistake delay for abandonment. God sees every faithful step. Your perseverance does not earn his goodness; it rests upon his goodness.
Hold the shield. Walk the next stretch of road. Let the light of God’s promise fall upon the ground before you. The reward is secure because the Promiser is faithful.
