Verse of the day: John 14:23

"Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them."

Jesus gives us one of Scripture’s most tender promises: those who love him and keep his teaching will not be left to walk alone. The Father will love them, and Father and Son will come and “make our home” with them.

Notice that Jesus does not describe love as mere admiration. To love him is to welcome his words into the decisions, habits, relationships, and hidden corners of daily life. Obedience is not a grim spiritual payment made to secure God’s attention. It is the response of a heart that trusts the One who speaks. We obey because his teaching leads us toward life, truth, mercy, and freedom.

The astonishing result is not simply that we become better people. It is that God makes his home in us. A home is more than a place one briefly visits. It is where one remains, rests, shares life, and belongs. Jesus is promising a holy nearness that reaches beyond occasional religious emotion. In the faithful heart, God dwells.

This is why the imagined manuscript illustration centers on a small house filled with gold. The house represents the soul: often plain, imperfect, and weathered by ordinary life. Yet its open door shows the welcome of obedience. Christ stands near it with an open Gospel book, reminding us that his teaching is not an obstacle at the entrance; it is the way by which we receive him. The glowing interior reveals what grace does. God does not despise the humble dwelling. He enters it and makes it radiant.

The lamp within the house symbolizes faith kept alive through prayer and trust. The vine flowering around its walls represents love that becomes visible in patient words, forgiveness, generosity, and courage. Bread upon the table suggests fellowship: the Lord does not come merely to inspect the house of the heart, but to share communion with us.

Today, perhaps the invitation is simple: open another room. Offer Christ the place where anxiety has settled, where resentment has lingered, or where obedience feels costly. His presence is not a threat to your true self. It is the fulfillment of it. When love answers his word, the soul becomes a dwelling place of divine peace.
