Verse of the day: Psalm 25:14-15
"The Lord confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them. My eyes are ever on the Lord, for only he will release my feet from the snare."
Looking Up When Life Pulls You Down
Have you ever felt completely stuck—entangled in a web of anxious thoughts, a stubborn sin, or circumstances beyond your control? When our feet are caught in life’s snares, our natural instinct is to look down. We stare at the knots. We tug at the ropes. We obsess over the trap until it fills our entire field of vision.
Psalm 25:14-15 offers a radically different posture for the trapped soul: "The Lord confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them. My eyes are ever on the Lord, for only he will release my feet from the snare."
To understand the richness of this promise, imagine it painted on the page of a medieval illuminated manuscript. Picture a weary pilgrim at the bottom of the page, his ankles tightly bound by thorny vines and ropes. The trap is real, and he cannot free himself. Yet, the artist does not paint the pilgrim looking at his feet. Instead, his head is tilted back, his eyes fixed firmly on the heavens bathed in brilliant gold leaf.
Why is he looking up? Because of what is happening at the top of the page.
The verse tells us that God confides in those who revere Him. In the Hebrew, this refers to the "secret counsel" of a close friend. In our imagined artwork, God is leaning down from the starry canopy, holding open a glowing scroll—His Covenant. He isn’t shouting instructions from a distance; He is whispering eternal truths to a trusted friend. When we approach God with reverent awe, He invites us into His inner circle. He shares His heart with us, reminding us of His promises even while our feet are still tangled in the dark.
As the pilgrim gazes at the Scroll of the Covenant, a beam of golden light descends from the hand of God, severing the ropes at his ankles.
This is the secret to spiritual freedom. You cannot untangle your own soul by staring at your problems. Deliverance happens when we shift our gaze from the complexity of the snare to the faithfulness of the Savior.
Today, whatever has your feet entangled, stop pulling at the knots. Lift your eyes. Fix your gaze on the One who calls you friend, whispers His promises over your life, and holds the power to set you free.
